2013 Writing Contest, Gracie Award

Gracie KittenWe want to take this opportunity to invite you to participate in our 2013 writing contest for the Gracie Award.

The award is named after Cynthia’s kitten, Gracie.  The photo of Gracie is when she was about 5-6 weeks old.  She loved and still does like playing on this first step on the stairs.

Gracie’s mother had been resting under a tree in Cynthia’s yard when she went into labor and had Grace.  The mother had Grace and still being in labor left Gracie behind to go to her nesting spot to have the rest of the litter.  The momma cat must have thought Gracie was dead or that she would come back for her.

When Cynthia arrived home, there under the tree was what was thought to be a piece of orange rope.  Upon closer inspection it was a new born kitten.  When the Momma cat had not returned by dusk, Cynthia took the kitten inside, cleaned it up and began the vigil of motherhood with every three to four hour feedings, bathing, and taking care of all the little kitten’s need.

The veterinarians told Cynthia the kitten would not survive.  Today Gracie is one year and seven months old.  She was born on May 12, 2011.

Cynthia named her Gracie because it was by the Grace of God the kitten survived.

In Gracie’s honor, we created a writing contest for the “Gracie Award.”
