Happy New Year!

This past year has been a hard one for all of us. We have had to learn a lot of new norms – lockdown, social distance, no handshakes, no hugs, work remotely, Zoom meetings, etc.

While I did not do much blogging in 2020, I did read a lot of books. It is my hope (fingers crossed) to get several book reviews written in 2021.

A Year in the Life of Plum

9780553447941 Have you ever wondered what your dog is thinking?  Emma Chichester Clark must have because she started writing a blog in the voice of her dog, Plum.  This blog became the book, Plumdog.  It gives us a glimpse into a year of Plum’s life.

Plum lives in London with her human caretakers Emma and Rupert.  She is a mix of Poodle and Jack Russell.  Plum doesn’t have a pedigree and because of that some dogs in the park will not talk to her and that’s okay.  She goes for walks  and visits with friends.  Clark did an outstanding job in capturing the dog’s personality in scenes where Plum must have patience and in others she has none.  And like all dogs, Plum gets into some trouble.  Like the time a vicious dog bit her and she needed lots of comforting from Emma and a trip to the Vet.  Plum was brave about getting stitches.  Emma, however, shows a bit of her own personality when she had to lie on the floor to keep from fainting from the site of Plum’s wound.

There is one word in this book that some parents may not want their children to read: a four letter word/foul language.  I guess parents could scratch out the word and add something different.  Personally, I laughed the hardest when I read this entry because it really did show Plum’s true personality.

I give Plumdog, 5 Stars.

This is a good book for parents to read to children, for children to read and for adults also.
